Meet former IEP students!

During this session, some of you got to meet 2 former IEP students.
This week, we introduce Chiemi! She started her study with the IEP and continued her education majoring in Hawaiian Studies. She is currently working as a peer mentor at the I Ola Hāloa Center.  Unfortunately, her schedule didn't allow her to join our virtual lunch so we asked a few questions.

Q: Why did you choose your major?
A: I chose my major which was Hawaiian Studies/Hula because I have loved dancing hula and wanted to learn about it and Hawaiian cultures since I was a high school student in Japan.

Q: What's your goal?
A: My goal is to graduate from Hawai'i Community College with Hawaiian Studies/Hula major and Early Childhood Education major. I want to be a preschool teacher, teach, and pass down Hawaiian cultures that I have learned from my major to children.

Q: What is your favorite place in Hilo?
A: My favorite place in Hilo is Richardson Ocean Park because I just love the beach and always want to be close to the ocean. I have actually met a lot of amazing people who were from here and came from different states and countries over there. That place gives me opportunities to connect with new people.
