Breaking News!

A note from Jen, our founder and Operator:

For over 40 years, I’ve lived in Monrovia with or near my small family. I moved to neighboring towns a couple of times, but always came back to Monrovia. This has always been my home, where I can count on seeing at least a dozen friends everywhere I go. I have truly adored Monrovia.

The last two years have been the most challenging in my entire 49 years of life and the time has come for me to make some decisions about what I want the rest of my life to look like. I’m not getting any younger! As some of you know, I’m enrolled in CATCH Trainers Academy working toward my dog training certification and I’ve started a new dog training adventure called The Real Life Dog.

This new adventure is proving to be exciting and challenging. There’s so much to learn! A lot of what I’m learning is carried over into how our pet care and dog walking team spends time with your awesome pets. We are proud to be 100% welfare focused and practice Fear Free methods of care. We stay current on the latest pet care, dog walking, and dog training peer reviewed studies & methods (not trends) and follow guidelines from Veterinary Behaviorists, Certified Separation Anxiety Trainers, and multiple professional organizations such as American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. Nobody else in our area is doing what our team is doing and I have full access to the best resources in the pet industry! Two Dogs Pet Services is and has always been a trailblazer in petsitting and dog walking, inventing the wheels.

The news is coming, I promise!

When we opened Vinney’s Gym & Dog Training Center, it was a few months into the pandemic and we’ve experienced a lot of ups and downs that come with a pandemic. Our effort to provide Monrovia’s dogs and their people a private, climate controlled, fun, learning environment to strengthen the relationship between a pup and their family has not been met with as much support as we’d hoped. We had a ton of interest and did all the market research and had a decent flow of awesome pups from August 2020 until November 2021, even though we were incredibly limited with what we were allowed to do. Once the variants started to show up in a big way and Thanksgiving 2021 passed, interest slowed way down. We aren’t able to pay the rent with people saying, “I need to bring my dog in”, know what I mean? I’m very tired, discouraged, disappointed, and broken in a few ways. I’m so sad to have to share the first part of our big news…we’ll be closing Vinney’s Gym and Dog Training Center in the next weeks. We just can’t keep the doors open any longer. We will be posting equipment and some office/storage furnishings for sale on our social media starting today. So, if you know of any dog trainers or doggy daycares who might need some fun stuff, send them our way! Text for info 626-673-7978.

If you’d like to get your pup in for in-person training, head over to The Real Life Dog and fill out a Dog Training Request form. In-person availability is extremely limited! For virtual training or more info about what I offer, Book A Call with me through the website and fill out the Dog Training Request.

The second part of the breaking news is that I’m moving. My brother moved a couple hours away in 2017, my mom recently moved to New Mexico and I don’t want to be away from her as she gets older. And, I’m just not happy here anymore nor can I afford to grow old in Monrovia, as I had hoped. I’m bummed, but thrilled to be going to a beautiful place. I’ll be moving to Taos, NM, where the whippets and I have a beautiful one bedroom home with fenced yard waiting for us.

If you have any questions or just want to chat, please call me 626-673-7978

This decision was well thought out and mostly easy. The hardest part will be leaving you, my amazing clients (actually, family & friends) and pets, some of whom I’ve known since I was 12 years old. Those I’ve personally served in the last year already have my replacements in order and the transition will be seamless as far as pet care that I normally am involved with. For those of you I don’t personally serve by way of direct pet care, but email, text, and call…I’m still going to be your person and very much involved as I’ve always been. I will continue to operate Two Dogs as normally as possible with a couple of short breaks during the move. If you have any questions about your future pet care, please reach out to me directly at 626-673-7978. It will be business as usual for the Two Dogs team! Your care will go on as usual! Just going to say this one more time…your pets will continue to receive the same high level of care they always have.

Whew! That’s a lot to absorb, I know! If you’re around this weekend, we are having a huge moving sale, inside and outside our Training Center at 221 W.
