Hi everyone

The office is humming trying to sort last minute arrangements for the Blast to the Past.
Although the weather forecast isn't currently that favourable, it is getting better and better and at this stage the event is all go. Sunday the bad weather is due to set in.
Please encourage friends and family to attend and support the event, urging them to park in some of the outer areas like Martyn Street, from here they can use the alleyway from Ripple Grove through to O'Sullivan Place.  This will ensure they have no delays with traffic congestion leaving.
We will have a Traffic Management Plan in place and Stop/Go signs at exit points leaving the Rugby Park and at the Constable Road roundabout.
All stall holders will be setting up from 4pm with the event starting at 6pm.  There will be live music, carnival entertainment and over 60 market stalls for you to enjoy.  Firing of the display will be around 8.30-9.15 weather/wind dependent. Safety is paramount so it will commence when it is safe to do so.
See you there!!!

A huge congratulations to Lisa-Marie Anderson and the team at St John Opportunity Shop on moving into their new premises at 4 Court Street, Waiuku.

New Florist on Queen Street

Queenie Blooms is an idea that had been brewing for a few years we just needed the right time and place!  A gorgeous little place popped up (62 Queen Street) and just like that in 2 weeks we were open!  I persuaded a pretty cool chick Kylie Enoka to come along for the journey as I really needed a florist who knew her stuff.
Our concept is ‘City Look, Country Prices’.  Lets make flowers affordable for everyone as they bring so much joy and the market shouldn’t be so select.  We are learning as we grow.  We have door deals through the week – this week peonies by the bucket load.  We send around Auckland and are promoted through the petals/telefloral website where we get many orders from all around the world.
Dried flowers and wreaths are right back on trend so we are busy burning our fingers with hot glue as they fly out the door!  We also stock a few non-floral items which make beautiful gifts including the gorgeous AmberJack and The Tribe candles,  Raglan chocolates as well as a wide range of vases.
So come and say hi if you haven’t already.  We will work with you to help you achieve the look you desire and remember Waiuku, Shop Local, Support local.

National Bank Waiuku
The National Bank opened its branch in Waiuku in August 1910, in rented premises, on the site of the blacksmith’s building on Queen Street.  Mr Alex Grigor from Balclutha was appointed as the manager.  A new site for the bank was purchased soon after in about 1911.  The bank moved from this site to the current location of the ANZ Bank, on the corner of Kitchener and Queen Street after it was completed in September 1914.  When the bank moved to the new site the manager was Mr Armitage.
The land next to the National Bank remained empty for many years after its construction.  Between 1923 and 1925 the Bank of New Zealand was built on that site.
The National Bank remained in Waiuku until it was rebranded as the ANZ Bank after ANZ purchased the National Bank.
