Planning for the Future 2020 Report

Thank you for your interest in education in Africa. We commissioned this report and created the conceptual framework to bring to life a conversation we organized in New York City in September 2019 titled: Planning for the Future: A conversation about education, entrepreneurship and employment in Africa. We called on expert panelists to discuss how we can transform the lives of African youth seeking entrepreneurship, education and employment.

The report was prepared by Tayib Fall, Liz Grossman, and Danielle Jacques of Baobab Consulting with additional research and editing work done by members of the IUGB Foundation. View report here.

Mastering Adaptive Response to COVID-19

In mere weeks, the world was presented with an unprecedented global pandemic that changes course every minute and is affecting every single person on planet earth.   COVID-19’s impact is felt as there is increased solidarity across borders and languages in determining solutions, critical and independent thinking, passion and leadership.

The Association of African Universities (AAU) noted in a recent message that several African universities are actively participating in high-end research towards finding a cure for COVID-19.  Rapid response teams are being formed, and Makerere University in Uganda has developed a dedicated website to provide Africa with facts and research-based information on COVID-19.  The IUGB Foundation social media platform is full of information and resources to help you navigate this difficult period.

Please check the links AAU has recommended as good resources for information on COVID-19 and for educational opportunities.

Amini Kajunju

What a time for reflection and analysis! A friend of mine who works for a multi-billion dollars company told me recently that due to COVID-19, he is spending 18 hours days on conference calls assessing three key concepts: market analysis, contingency planning and risk assessment.

As I think about the impact of COVID 19 on education and higher education to be exact, I am wondering, if as an industry, we are assessing risk, planning for contingencies and deepening our understanding of the market. I am collecting my thoughts and taking notes on a myriad of issues and will release my thinking in the weeks and months to come. Stay safe and healthy.

In the meantime, I have come across an insightful article about the difference between emergency remote learning and online education. To read the article, click here.
