SH2030 Newsletter 1

Now that SH2030 is  up and running, we have decided to send out a short newsletter to everyone who has signed up to hear from us. We are glad to have such a keen and active community in Henfield and feel SH2030 is already managing to make a difference. Thanks to all who have already  been involved  in any of our informal  Action Group meetings.
Do come along to any of our Action Groups or Pubic Meetings if you want to join us more actively (details of the groups are below).  Everyone is welcome, even if you have not been able come to meeting so far.

Many of you will already know that we are now a federal group of Henfield Community Partnership. This helps SH2030   connect with the  wider community and will ensure our projects focus on benefitting the  village, because increasing  sustainability is also an aspiration of the Community Partnership. We also hope to  link up with other local groups and to learn from national news, information and campaigns.

SH2030's Next Public Meeting - now at HENFIELD HAVEN- 20th November 7pm for 7.30 start

In response to feedback from local people, we have decided to prioritise reintroducing a plastics campaign in the village. The aim is to reduce  single-use plastic, and to increase plastic recycling locally (for items that cannot go in our blue topped bins). There will be a  speaker from Sussex Greener Living at our meeting. We will also will introduce the process of our community achieving official  'Plastic Free Henfield' status. This will take a year, but we are now 'on the map' to start that process.           https://www.sas.org.uk/communities-near-me/

New 'Carbon Reducing' Website
- uses 3x less fossil fuels!

The new Sustainable Henfield 2030 website is being launched this week... watch this space! It was made by our members and is hosted by a company who aim to be  300% Green!  The carbon reduction is  achieved by replacing 3 times the amount of energy  consumed by the website in the form of windpower renewable energy credits.  Hopefully our website will help to reduce the huge predicted increases in electricity demand being made by the growth of the internet.
The link at the bottom of this newsletter should open the new website. You might also like to try the links to Facebook, twitter, and Instagram where we post items of news or of shared interest.

Biodiversity Action Group News

The Biodiversity Action Group has already had a planning meeting and also a planting session to support pollinators on the Borrer Bank.... plus there's plenty more action planned!  We aim to prioritise  looking after our trees in Henfield and also to support gardeners with ideas for wildlife-friendly gardening.
Next meeting is as Henfield Tennis Club on Monday 28th October at 7pm.

Consumer Action Group News
At the last Consumer Action Group meeting, we heard from Joy Carter the recycling guru from the volunteer recycling group, the  'Horsham Wombles'. She  spoke about her experiences recycling, and gave us some great advice on how to start a single-use plastic recycling scheme in Henfield. We're hoping to introduce recycling bins for specific items around the village, then to package the items up and send them to a company called Terracycle which recycles types of plastic not currently recycled by local councils.
We are working on plans for Henfield to start its own 'Repair Cafe' as well.
More information on this subject to follow.at our next full public meeting: Henfield Haven, Hewitts, BN5 9DT. 7pm on 20th November.

Consumer Group meeting on plastics at The White Hart

Carbon Reduction Group news

Ideas on reducing carbon emmissions from the community include thinking about BIG  projects like putting solar panels on community buildings to develop  our own local energy solutions. Ideas we can start with right away will be to advise local people to help us all  reduce our carbon footprints.  The first Action Group meeting will be at Henfield Tennis Club 7pm on Wednesday October 30th. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm!
Transport Action  Group news
The Transport Action Group will meet on Wednesday 6th November at Henfield Tennis Club at 7pm.
Come along with your ideas for car sharing, increasing bus use, promoting walking and cycling and more.....
