The Academy of Forensic Nursing is excited to host special guests Deborah Pierce and Dr. Jeremy Ackerman for this upcoming Member's Only AFN Webinar - Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Nursing on  November 30, 2022 at 12:00 PM EST.   

What does it take to be a SWAT nurse?  Learn about the role and duties of a SWAT Nurse "Care Under Fire".  Compare the difference between hospital nursing and Swat nursing as well as the planning, education and training required for this role and job.  Responsibilities will be identified when going out
on a call for the Swat Nurse.

DEBORAH (DEB) PIERCE
RN,BSN,CEN, TNCC, ATCN,TECC, Sworn Police Officer

Deborah (Deb) Pierce is a RN as well as a sworn law enforcement officer.  She has many years of experience as a trauma nurse in Level 1Trauma Centers and is a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).  She also has certifications in TNCC, TECC, ATCN and is a certified "Stop the Bleed" instructor as well as an American Heart Association certified BLS instructor.

She was recruited to a Tier One SWAT team in the Atlanta area 2 years ago to serve as the nurse for the team.  After working with the team for a while, they put her through the police academy so that she could carry a weapon when the team goes out on a call and also have authority to act in a law enforcement capacity should the situation arise.
DR. JEREMY ACKERMAN
MD, PhD, FACEP, Georoia POST Instructor, Police Officer

Jeremy Ackerman is an Emergency Physician who began working with local law enforcement five years ago.  After working with a SWAT team for several years he completed the police academy and is now also a law enforcement instructor. He continues to work as an attending physician at an academic Level 1 Trauma Center.
