The recent media coverage on Coronavirus (COVID-19) being a potential pandemic and the stock market losing ground daily makes us average working people wonder what's coming next. Will more trucking companies go out of business? Will any of this affect us here at M.C. Van Kampen Trucking; if so, how? So let's address a few of the current issues.

Only time will tell when or if the spread of the Coronavirus will negatively impact our customers. Please take the necessary precautions when visiting customer locations and truck stops. According to the Center for Disease Control, it is imperative to wash your hands after visiting or having contact with the general public.

I will not give you an opinion or advice on why the stock market is losing ground or how far it will decline. The only thought I have is to leave it up to the professionals if you have retirement money in a 401K.

Let's now talk about positive signs! We continue to update our fleet while other carriers are struggling. Years of having a conservative approach to business growth and having solid partnerships with customers in the food and furniture business are proving to be rewarding for us here at
MC Van Kampen. Also, diesel fuel continues to drop which is beneficial for all in trucking. We have had some important conversations regarding the above social media buzz with our core customer base and the outlook is optimistic rather than doom and gloom, which is great news! We are looking forward to increased orders for March and April.

Our focus remains the same here at M.C. Van Kampen Trucking...
stay in our lane and continue to provide the "Best in Class Service" for our customers.

The driver app has been a success! We have been able to process payroll faster and more efficiently. Thank you for your patience as we implemented this new process. It came with some heartaches, but we believe we have all the kinks worked out. One reminder: the cutoff to submit paperwork is 3 p.m. EST on Weds. As always, we are here for any questions or comments you may still have in regard to the app.

As you may already know, we've added another driver manager to the team in dispatch. Please make sure to stop in and introduce yourself to Andrew Clark next time you're in the office.
Jake Geerligs recently traveled to Guyana on a mission trip with his church. The team of 18 people was able to accomplish 2 months of work in 10 days. They poured footing and started block walls for multiple cabins as well as a 20’ x 70’ dining hall. The team also poured the floor for a two story house that will be a parsonage. Jake helped set all the forms (built by hand using rough sawn lumber) to pour the second story. If you have an opportunity, make sure to ask him about his trip - he has some interesting stories and a lot of great pictures. We're proud of the work our drivers do on and off the road!
