Spring is in the Air
(or maybe the rain is warming up)

I want to start with a recommendation for an inspirational team at the Do Book Company https://thedobook.co/. Their series of ‘how to’ guides are eclectic and fun. There is something for everyone and the series of books challenges the creative in everyone. ‘Do Open’ on the value of newsletters for small businesses is mostly to blame for the developing style of this newsletter – now you know who to blame! Bee keeping anyone?

Business Continuity –
Observations from Recent Programmes

CrisisVR has recently supported two companies with their BC programmes. What did we learn that can help others? After several months of support, our principal observations are grouped as: Expectations, Terminology, Existing Plans and The Danger of Reality.

Critical Decision Making – The NASA Way

NASA has experienced more than its share of crises. As a uniquely super-high-risk organisation, how does it manage those critical ‘Go or No-Go’ decisions to reduce the risk and avert the potential for crisis?

Jerry Allen, MD of CrisisVR remains fascinated by crisis leadership; the strategies and tools used by ordinary people charged with making extraordinary decisions.  In this short article (Read Here), Jerry examines some of the leadership criticisms levelled at NASA on its darkest day and how accountability has shaped the modern NASA attitude.

This article and the links it contain are essential reading for crisis managers but also for those managing change and risk.

Travelling Solo

Another tip from the Do Book company (see lead article) is to showcase 3rd party articles that are relevant to your own. This article from Anne McCarthy of Wired www.wired.com/story/covid-solo-travel-tips/ really hits the spot for me. A 2022 resolution is to travel and spend time in places only previously viewed from taxis.  In her informative and entertaining style, Anne offers advice for any traveller, you don’t have to be going solo (but it is great fun!).

CrisisVR offers a short e-learning course on travel safety; perfect for solo travellers or those returning to travel after a few years absence.  Read more here.
